Hope: Learning from Nature

Independent Evaluator | Newcastle University Library

A longitudinal, mixed-method evaluation of a National Lottery Heritage Fund-supported project exploring natural heritage, climate and young people's sense of hope and possibility. Working with Year 9 pupils in Northumberland, the project brings together Newcastle University, the National Trust at Wallington and Northumberland National Park Authority. The evaluation is built around a logic model, a planned pre-delivery baseline and tools approved through Newcastle University's ethics review, with fieldwork across autumn, spring and summer.

Expanding Horizons

Freelance Project Coordinator & Evidence Lead | Northumberland and County Durham

Coordinating a cultural access pilot led by the Northumberland and County Durham Cultural Education Partnerships, with support from the North East Mayoral Strategic Authority as part of its work on child poverty. Working with ten schools across rural West Northumberland and post-industrial County Durham, the pilot tests ways to overcome barriers to cultural visits, particularly transport. Two comparative strands explore hired transport and existing public transport routes, with a baseline designed to distinguish geographical isolation from socioeconomic disadvantage. Evidence and learning from the pilot will inform practical resources, including a sponsorship pack and teacher CPD, to support more sustainable cultural access.

Critical Friend Review | Learning Offer & Education Collection

A Critical Friend review of the museum's schools programme from EYFS to KS3. Drawing on six strands of evidence, including teacher consultation, booking data from 2021 to 2026 and a 351-record education collection catalogue, the review identified opportunities for object-first enquiry, with story as the frame. Against a brief for up to two new sessions, the work delivered four KS2 sessions developed or redesigned, three KS3 packs and practical improvement processes designed to be sustained without ongoing consultant support.
